Replace Your Outdated Google Analytics Plugin Now

It’s time to review your WordPress Website or Blog. Have you been keeping up with the latest plugin and WordPress versions? Not sure?

Google Analytics Updates by Michelle AspelinLog in to your website (www.yourdomain.com/wp-admin) and when the admin page pops up, if you have updates to be done, you’ll see a black circle with numbers in it on the left side near the Plugins menu item and near your Dashboard that will say Updates with a black circle and a number in it.

For many of you, I used the plugin called Web Ninja Google Analytics to track your website traffic and help you determine the keywords your prospects are using to find you on the Internet. This is an important tool providing valuable information. The developer has recently abandoned this plugin and it’s no longer effective. Please DEACTIVATE then DELETE this plugin.

You can replace it by ADDING this plugin, Google Analytics for WordPress. Remember to add your Google Analytics code to the settings so it can track the traffic on your site. You can get your statistics in your Google account (http://www.google.com/analytics/) or you can add another Plugin so you can see them on your Dashboard too. That Plugin is Google Analytics Dashboard. I am using both of these and they provide all the information that the Web Ninja Plugin offered.

I also recommend you view your website from a mobile phone. Do you like the format? Double check that you have a mobile version for your website. More and more clients are searching on their phones to find you. Make sure your site is sized properly so they don’t need to keep expanding and shrinking just to navigate. If you have a mobile version, it will automatically reformat your site to be as wide as the device you are using to view it.

For many of my clients, I installed the WP Mobile Detector Plugin.  You can go under the settings for the plugin to choose the theme for your mobile view if you’d like to edit what you see from your phone. If you don’t have this plugin, I recommend you add it.

Now is a great time to make sure all of your other Plugins and your WordPress version are up-to-date. 99% of the time they can be updated without issue. On that rare 1%, you may have plugins that don’t work with the most recent WordPress Version or they have conflicts among themselves. After you have updated your plugins, check your site. Are all of your links and forms working? Any changes in your copy or the design elements?

One more thing to check are Comments. Some of you allow Comments on your Posts and Pages. Make sure you are keeping up with those. Most likely they are prospective clients wanting to contact you! On your Dashboard menu on the left side, you will see Comments. If you have a black circle with a number in it, you have Comments that need your attention. Click on comments and review them. You can post them, delete, reply or mark as spam. I have added a plugin to your account that drastically reduces the number of potential spam comments.

If you’d like some help getting your site updated, give me a call or send me an email. I’d be happy to review your site and get it up-to-date for you.

If you have other changes to your content, new images or services, we can add those at the same time too. I look forward to hearing from you!
